"Being happy and not having a reason to be unhappy are two different things." - Miles, #YDon't let the shallow trailer mislead you. #Y 's trailer and synopsis don't reveal what the film is really about. It is the story of Miles (Elmo Magallona), who wishes to commit suicide, even if he doesn't really know the reason for his desire to end his life. The film has its brilliant moments .Miles' voice and emotions are honest and raw, but the film seems to fall short on giving the viewer a solid insight on suicide and depression.
Elmo Magallona and Coleen Garcia's acting were brilliant and effortless. I can't say the same for the other actors, though.
While the screenplay is well-written, some parts of the script needs a little help, especially Miles' conversations with Abbey (Chynna Ortaleza), a girl who works for the suicide helpline Miles calls.
All in all, for an indie film with a limited budget, #Y makes the most of its resources. It is a film that shouldn't be missed in this year's Cinemalaya offerings.
